Nexus Opinions
Medical Nexus Opinions: Beyond the "Template" Letter
If you have been denied a VA disability claim, you’ve likely seen the phrase: "The evidence does not show a link between your current condition and your military service." To the VA, a "Nexus" is the bridge. Without it, even the most severe injury is considered non-compensable. But as a Board-Certified Chiropractic Neurologist (DIBCN) and Ph.D. Candidate in Neuroscience, I look at a Nexus through a different lens: Biological Plausibility.
The Gold Standard: The 9 Bradford Hill Criteria
Most "Nexus Mills" use a simple template that says a condition is "at least as likely as not" connected to service. These are often rejected because they lack a scientific "why."
In my practice, I utilize the 9 Bradford Hill Criteria for Causation—the same framework used in high-level medical research and epidemiological studies. We don't just state a connection; we prove it using:
-
Strength of Association: How strongly does the medical literature link your event to your diagnosis?
-
Temporality: Does the timing of your symptoms align with the pathophysiology of the injury?
-
Biological Plausibility: Does the connection make sense based on the latest neurological and orthopedic science?
Why a Neurological Perspective Matters
Neurological conditions like TBI, Migraines, and Peripheral Neuropathy are often "invisible." They don't always show up on a standard X-ray. My background in Electrodiagnosis (EDX) and clinical research allows me to find the objective evidence—like nerve entrapments or ocular-motor dysfunctions—that generalists often miss.
Our "No-Waste" Process: The Clinical Audit
I understand that veterans are often on a fixed income and cannot afford to waste $1,500 on a letter that won't work. That is why every case starts with a $75 Clinical Record Audit.
-
Secure Intake: You upload your STRs and Decision Letters to our HIPAA-compliant portal.
-
Specialist Review: I personally review your records to see if a scientific Nexus exists.
-
The Determination: Within 48 hours, I will tell you if the evidence supports a full Nexus Opinion.
If there isn't a link, I'll tell you why, saving you hundreds of dollars. If there is, we proceed with a forensic report that is built to withstand BVA scrutiny.
